Iran emerged as the most successful country in the boys’ events at the Iraq Junior and Cadet Open in Erbil on Saturday 29th January 2011.
Only one of the four titles on offer eluded their grasp that being the Junior Boys’ Doubles event, won by Sweden’s Carl Akerlind and Egypt’s Abdel-Rahman Mohamed.
Otherwise, it was a golden day for Iran.
Mohammad Amin Hente won the Boys’ Singles title, the Cadet Boys’ Singles crown went the way of Sroosh Amiri Nia. who added a further title by securing the Cadet Boys’ Doubles crown in partnership with Hamed Basht Bavi.
Underlined Progress Seeded no.4, Mohammad Amin Hente excelled expectations and underlined the current healthy situation for table tennis in Iran.
At the quarter-final stage he beat Egypt’s Mohamed Shouman, the no.2 seed, before overcoming compatriot and no.3 seed, Alireza Molarajabi in the final.
Alireza Molarajabi, like Mohammad Amin Hente, had caused a semi-final success; at the penultimate hurdle he beat Egypt’s Omar Bedahair, the no.1 seed.
Rose to Occasion Equally, Soroosh Nia Amiri rose to the occasion.
He beat Jordan’s Zeyed Aldmaisi in the quarter-finals before accounting for Sweden’s Elias Renefur in the semi-finals and top seeded colleague, Hamed Basht Bavi in the final.
At the quarter-final stage, Hamed Basht Bavi had beaten the host nation’s Hussein Gabar before defeating Sweden’s third seeded Simon Berglund.
Cadet Boys’ Doubles Success Success for Soroosh Nia Amiri in the Cadet Boys’ Singles event and also in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles competition.
Partnering Hamed Basht Bavi, the duo accounted for Sweden’s Simon Berglund and Elias Ranefur at the final hurdle.
